Every December, Putnam City High School presents the 12 Days Assembly for all students to enjoy before going on winter break. The 12 Days Assembly consists of orchestra, band, jazz band, dance, StuCo, leadership classes, choir, cheer, pom, drumline and more.
In order to put on an assembly like 12 Days, StuCo and the leadership classes all have to come together to make this assembly happen. StuCo helps the assembly run smoothly and makes sure that the outcome is something everyone will enjoy.
“We usually see what is trending or what we think the audience would like and go from there when trying to come up with ideas for 12 Days,” junior Jacie Warfe said.
Other than Stuco, choir is also involved in 12 Days. Lauren Knox, Zion Robinson, and Samantha Parker are choir students that sit in a sleigh entertain with songs throughout the assembly.
“The actual 12 Days was passed over to the theatre troupe this year. However, at the time of the assembly, Zion, Lauren, and I were in both so the switch was easy. I would say that it’s important for the performing arts groups to be at assemblies like 12 Days because it’s one of the few times we get in front of the majority of the student body. Putnam City High School has some really talented students and faculty in the performing arts and it’s a big part of the culture at our school. Therefore, it is really nice when the various groups are able to get recognition for the work they put into their craft,” senior Samantha Parker said.
Along with choir, cheer also performs for 12 Days. Lots of time and commitment goes into performing and memorizing a dance to perform in front of the student body. 12 Days is one of the many events that cheer performs at.
“It is important that cheer performs during 12 Days so that people see what we have been working on and what we are able to accomplish. Also, the main focal point of cheer is school spirit and 12 Days has a lot to do with school spirit and getting students involved,” senior Hydiah Williams said.
At the end of the assembly, drumline performs which has always been a tradition to close out the assembly. Drumline works hard to make sure that their performance runs smoothly. It is the last big send off before the end of the semester.
