Bryson Cael was a beloved player, student, and friend. During his time at Putnam City
High School he impacted many individuals’ lives. Many baseball players have a personal connection to him.
Throughout his time at PCHS, Bryson touched the lives of many, especially those who shared the field with him. His presence on the baseball team not only built strength and skill but also fostered lasting friendships.
“He was a senior when I was a freshman and we were really good friends. During
summer year before my freshman year we would hangout a lot. I played shortstop which was his position and so he taught me a lot about the position. He was never negative, critiquing or anything which you would expect from an upperclassman. He was always very encouraging and always invited me to practices with him,” senior Connor Fast said.
Out on the field he was one of the most athletic players on the team. The love and dedication he had towards baseball inspired his teammates and coaches.
“Bryson Cael was the fastest player that I’ve ever coached and always practiced and
played with a smile. He loved everything about baseball, always bringing a lot of positive energy to the field, the dugout, the locker room. I loved coaching him. It was a privilege to coach a kid like that, you don’t always get around them but when you find one it’s precious and he was really special to me,” coach Brady said.
Along with being a baseball player, his activities were like every other teenager. He loved
going out with friends and making memories with those he loved.
“When we went to Buffalo Wild Wings after a scrimmage, Bryson and another
senior named Deondree were stacking straws in a cup, making a six foot long straw
with a cup. And they were walking around buffalo wild wings with that. It was pretty hilarious,” senior Andrew Simons said.
To honor Bryson’s memory, his teammates created a heartfelt tradition that continues each year—a memorial baseball tournament that celebrates his life and legacy. It is a memorial to carry on his legacy and keep him forever in their hearts.
“When Bryson died, we all got together and we wanted a way to memorialize him and
we figured the best way would be baseball. We got a whole bunch of teams that were
affected by Bryson’s loss and had a tournament to represent him” senior Lukas Poindexter said.
Bryson Cael’s legacy lives on in the game he loved, the teammates he inspired, and the memories he left behind. His spirit remains forever at Putnam City High Scho
