Putnam City High School’s annual talent showcase was held November 14th in the school’s auditorium. Ticket holders were able to attend a 9 AM show or 7 PM show. All students were given the opportunity to try-out to be contestants.
This talent show was planned and produced by students. Many contestants had participated in previous years.
”I wanted to perform in the talent show because I had participated in the talent show from previous years and I had a lot of fun being a part of the talent show. I am a senior which means this was my last opportunity to be a part of the high school talent show so I went for it.” senior Samantha Parker said.
While watching the talent show, students can get inspired by watching others to do their acts. The talent show at PCO gives students the opportunity to branch out and try something new.
“I think it is important that we have a talent show because it is an opportunity for others students at PCO to show people what they are capable of, as well as giving the students watching an idea at something they might want to try to do in the future,” freshman Sophia Stone said.
The talent show brought forth a lot of emotions for the performers and to the audience. Many of the performers enjoyed it exceedingly, making them more willing to participate in one if there is to be another in the near future.
“I would like to participate in the talent show again because I enjoyed the atmosphere and loved having the opportunity to showcase my talent. After the talent show, I felt relieved and happy. I felt I went out there and did the best that I could and I am proud of myself and the rest of the students who participated with me!” junior Logan Hooper said.
Behind the scenes, students work together to make sure that the production of the talent show moves smoothly. The tech crew work to make sure the microphones are in the right place. There is no job that goes unseen.
“I think the most important thing I have learned from being a part of the tech crew for so many different events for the school is that without tech, things like the talent show, plays, sports media, and even our graduation ceremony could not happen. The people that work these events put in countless hours rehearsing and planning so that others can sit back and enjoy. I think that it’s important to appreciate tech because even if they may not be in the show, they do run it,”senior Jossalyn Lonebear said.
Being on stage can be challenging to some as there may be some mixed emotions about performing in front of a large crowd. In doing so, practicing and experiencing being on stage may enhance one’s capability in performing in front of others.
“I prepared myself by practicing the day before and prior to the talent show by going over the intro of the song with my guitar and by practicing vocalizing. I ended up skipping a good chunk of the song by accident because of my nerves, but it was a good learning experience for me. I am slowly getting over my nerves and plan to improve more for the future,” third place winner sophomore Dylan Hernandez Fuentes said.
At the end of the showcase, students were able to vote for their favorite performer and later that day judges voted on who they thought should be the winner of the talent show overall. This resulted in sophomore Pilar Humphrey being the winner of Putnam City High School’s 2024 talent show!
“After finding out I won the talent show I was in surprise and disbelief. I prepared for the talent show by continuing to sing my song and ensuring I could hit the high notes of the song. I couldn’t have done it without the encouragement and support from my friends and family!” first place winner sophomore Pilar Humphrey said.
