Spirit Week has been a tradition many schools have celebrated for years, and its presence remains prominent at PCO. Its fanciful aspects are most certainly what gives Spirit Week its charm, but that charm would be lost without the students.
PCO’s Spirit Week brings forth the opportunity for students to show off their own personality and styles. Students being given the opportunity to participate also allows them to give their own interpretation of the different themed days, which brings out more of the diversity in the school.
“At first Spirit Week wasn’t something that was appealing to me, but after I did it with friends, I realized how fun it is to plan my own thing for the week.” junior Morgan Carson said
A big part of Spirit Week is being able to show appreciation for the school with friends. Planning out themed outfits for the week ensures that memories will be made, and school spirit is repped.
“I participated in the different themes because my friends wanted me to match with them, and I’m really glad I did because it was fun.” sophomore Kason Jackson said.
Something Spirit Week does that sometimes goes unnoticed is how much closer it brings the school together by breaking down unfamiliarity. Spirit Week can bring together students who have not spoken to each other once, because they are participating.
“I like Spirit Week, because it helped me get to know a lot of people who also dressed up, and made it easier to adjust to a new school.” freshman Elijah Definini said
One of the most important parts of Spirit Week is just being able to have a good time. After all stress and anxiety is the last thing Spirit Week wants to bring. Most of the lightheartedness of Spirit Week comes from its silliness and the crazy nature of it all.
“I think Spirit Week is cool because it lets the whole school come together and create an all positive, stress free environment.” Senior Jaylen Pratcher said
