PCO Students Get Ready for a Magical “Starry Night” Prom

Prom is one of the most anticipated events of the school year at Putnam City High School, giving juniors and seniors in good standing the opportunity to celebrate in style. This year, the big night took place on April 18th from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. at the Oklahoma City Farmers Market

Students who get to go to prom say that it is something that they look forward to each year. Students get to dress up, take pictures, and overall have a fun night that they will never forget. For many students, prom is more than just a dance—it’s a night of glamor, memories, and fun with friends.

“I love going to prom because I like seeing everyone there. Seeing everyone’s dresses, makeup and nails just makes it fun to be at. Since it is my last year to go to prom, I am going to make sure to take lots of pictures to capture the moment,” senior Josephine Martinez said.

Prom is a great way for students to express themselves and show off their style. The theme for this year’s Prom is “Starry Night”. Although some students that attend will dress with the theme, others say that they will add their own twist to it.

“What goes through my mind when planning for prom is being “on but off” theme. I try to stay close to the original theme and sort of add my own twists and creativity to it. For this year’s Starry Night theme I am taking my inspiration from the northern lights,” junior Izzy Hoogan said.

Setting up for Prom and deciding on the theme is a big responsibility. The Prom Committee is in charge of deciding theme. These students take on the responsibility of brainstorming themes, planning decorations, and ensuring everything goes smoothly the night of the event.

“I wanted to join the prom committee because I thought it would be fun to be involved in getting to pick the prom theme and it would be special to have the chance to set up prom,” junior Cherish Howard said.

Prom at Putnam City is unlike any other Prom in the area. With the help of students who are willing to give up their time to help Prom be memorable for everyone, the night ends up being a great success.

“The process of making the prom theme was that everyone shared themes they would want and we slowly eliminated themes until we all agreed on one. I feel like Putnam City really listened to the students lead where some schools rely on faculty to throw the prom for them which makes prom special for our school,” junior Jacie Warfe said.
