Strings and Things

The Putnam City high school orchestra held a concert September 24, 2024.

Orchestra held a concert that was performed in the auditorium. After the concert ended there were walking tacos available for everyone.

“I play the violin and every now and then the viola. I did slip up one time during my performance. For my warmup routine I just practice the course and things like that,”  sophomore Tamani Taft said.

Orchestra is a group of instrumentalists especially one combining string, woodwind, brass, and percussion sections and playing genres of music usually being classical.

“The concert went well. The instrument I play is the viola. I absolutely did slip up at some moments. I chose to be in an orchestra because I wanted to play an instrument” freshman Olivia Ross said.

Orchestra students work together to create music, which can foster a sense of belonging and community. Students can learn about composers, musical techniques, and history of music.

“The concert went better than expected and we played every piece correctly. I play the base for my instrument. There were a few times I slipped up. The type of music we played was from the 90s. My mom suggested orchestra to me in 4th grade and I’ve been playing since. Orchestra means a lot to me. I Students can learn and practice skills like teamwork, organization, and can also develop critical thinking and listening skills.

“The concert was a lot of fun. I play viola on the first chair. To warm up I just do a mix of skills and practice rhythms. Orchestra is like a first priority to me. I dedicate a lot of my time and I’m the leader of my section so it means a lot to me, junior Penelope Dees said.
